Gogo Coco

go sox

Since I am presently without a TV, satellite dish, and TIVO (we just moved to Yankee country in Rochester, New York ), I was forced to watch, and re-watch, and re-watch, Coco's amazing catch at bostonredsox.com. It's hard to catch a ball once it passes you, but that's exactly what Coco Crisp did in left centerfield last night. A Fred Lynn moment and another great win for the Sox! The streak could be over tonight, however, I checked out Jason Johnson's stats online and this guy is Pawtucket caliber--tops! If the Sox win they'll need 7-10 plate-crossers.

Dear Pedro: Meet Your New Daddy

go sox

As a Red Sock, Pedro racked up two Cy Young awards, a World Series ring, a bazillion strike outs, thousands of the most beautiful change-ups ever tossed the 60'-6", a 13-1 playoff victory over the Yankees and Roger Clemens, and my personal favorite--Do you remember this night?--Pedro, nursing a sore shoulder, comes in from the bullpen during game 5 of the 1999 Division Series and pitches six no-hit innings against one of the greatest offensive teams in baseball history. Steve Buckley of the Boston Herald ranked Pedro's magical night against the Indians as the 14th Most Significant Moment in Red Sox History. At number 38 on Buckley's list is the greatest Red Sox trade ever made: Sox acquire Pedro Martinez from the Montreal Expos for minor-leaguers Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr., on Nov. 18, 1997. So don't get me wrong I am a big Pedro fan--with, of course, a few exceptions: First, Pedro's willingness to intentionally throw at the heads of hitters; Second, his pathetic World Wrestling Federation moment with Don Zimmer; Third, Pedro's massive ego; and lastly, the comment that will live in infamy: "The Yankees are my daddy".

So, after the Sox punished Pedro yesterday at Fenway, I have two things to say to Pedro: (1) I'm still a fan; (2) Meet Your New Daddy.
