CRISP

go sox

like most trades, this one is definitely a "wait and see" deal. IF crisp plays solid defense in center and hits .300 over the next three years for the sox, it was probably a good deal. the sox have enough money to replace the unproven talent we might have had in marte through free agency. crisp is a proven talent and will contribute immediately. in the damon-to-crisp transition, we will lose runs scored on offense, but we will allow less runs on defense because crisp has a much better arm than damon. let us not forget that opposing players went from first to third on almost every hit to damon's left or right. that will not happen with crisp.

Theo's Return

go sox

Some people are disappointed with Theo's return. I am not and here is why.
    First
, he played a central role in bringing Curt Schilling to Boston which was THE KEY MOVE in bringing a championship to Boston. Second, he brought Keith Foulke to Boston which was A KEY MOVE in bringing a championship to Boston. Third, he pulled off THE KEY TRADE (Mientkiewicz and Roberts) in bringing a championship to Boston. Fourth, he brought David Wells to Boston, and although he struggled through injuries early, he was almost unbeatable at Fenway. Lastly, during Theo's tenure the Sox averaged 95 wins, made the playoffs three straight years, and got THE KEY RING. For those of you who want to bring up Rentanerror, just calm down, Rentanerror was a total class guy, who played hard, and gave his best shot. Yes, he played like a one million dollar-a-year guy and made more errors than the Bush foreign policy team, but at least he didn't have a one million dollar-a-year, self-absorbed attitude like Garciaparra, Manny, and Pedro.

The Griffey Rumor

go sox

I would love to have Griffey on the Sox. Why? Isn't he an injury guarantee (only 128 games played in '05; and much worse in previous years)? Isn't he still making Bill Gates kinda cash? Probably and Definitely. Neverthless, if we can sign him to a one-year deal it would be worth it just at the outside chance that he might recapture the fullness of the Griffey glory. He should see a lot of strikes in the Sox lineup and he showed signs of greatness in '05 -- 35 jacks, 92 rbis, .301 ba, .576 slugging. Bring him on, nothing like having four potential hall of famers back to back to back to back (papi, manny, griffey, varitek). And by the way, that goes lefty, righty, lefty, switch. What do you think?

And where is Graffanino going to play?

uhh..

I was a bit confused by the Tony Graffanino signing today. We signed Mark Loretta presumably so that we could trade TG. Does anyone have any ideas why we have two high quality second basemen?

It's J.T. Snowkiewicz

redsoxbloggers welcomes the second coming of doug mientkiewicz in the form of j.t. snow. as someone who lives 20 minutes from sbc park and attends 7 or so games a year, i can bear first-hand witness that j.t. snow is a great pickup for the sox. the guy is a gold-glove-freak on defense and can be blazing hot at the plate for five to ten game stretches throughout the season (especially when he is seeing good pitches in front of a great hitter). granted, his plate-work can also stink like a dead body at times, neverthless, he is a class guy, great glove, streaky hitter, and a big-time competitor who wants a ring. this is a great pickup. kudos to the front office.

Manny: "There will be no trade"

It's "MANNY BEING MANNY, PART INFINITY". "Moody" Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com, "There will be no trade, I'm staying in Boston, where I'm familiar with the system and where I have a lot of friends, especially David Ortiz". Well, we'll see if Red Sox management is willing to extend more unconditional love to #24. I doubt it (see my post, "10 Reasons Why Manny Will Be Traded").

A Red Sox Fan In Mexico

I met this Red Sox fan on the dirt streets of Mexico while I was on a
mission trip in 2005. We joyfully discussed our World Champion
Boston RedSox. I invited him to to church that night and he showed
up.
